Pfizer hopes to make their vaccine available to children under 12 years of age.
This morning, Pfizer announced that their vaccine is effective for kids ages 5 – 11.
They say they are now seeking approval for use on kids.
It comes as the Food and Drug Administration says they are not recommending a third dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for now.
The FDA says only people 65 and older or anyone else considered at high-risk, should get it for the time being. Some medical experts say it is a matter of time before it is recommended for more groups of people.
Vaccine advisers with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will also meet this week to discuss COVID-19 booster shots.
President Biden says that he is hopeful that vaccines for school age children will greatly reduce cases in schools.
The CDC says the seven-day average of COVID-19 deaths hit a high last week, not seen since March 1.
