The Biden administration will not send any "diplomatic or official representation" to Beijing for the Winter Olympic games.

The Biden administration announced Monday that they will not send an official delegation to the Winter Games in Beijing.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this will be a statement against China's "ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang."

US athletes will still be allowed to compete in the Olympics, but the administration will not be sending government officials to the games.

There has been in increase of pressure by the United States on China over allegations of forced labor and human rights abuses, particularly against the Uyghur population and other ethnic and religious minority groups.

Beijing is set to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in February.

Human rights activists and some lawmakers have called for a boycott of the event.
