Visit a time gone by in West Michigan. The Lakeshore Museum offers a Mother's Day discount and an opportunity to see what life was like during the Victorian Era.

A unique gift for mom on Mother’s Day may be a quick trip back in time.

Our WCSG’s Travelin Together series steps back into the Victorian Era with a visit to the Hackley and Hume Historic site on Mother’s Day. Designed by architect David S. Hopkins in the late 1880s for lumber barons Charles H. Hackley and Thomas Hume, the homes have been structurally restored to their 1890s appearance, showcasing Victorian architecture and late 19th-century interior decorative arts. The visit includes a tour of the Fire Barn Museum and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era, both a part of the Muskegon Historic Sites of the Lakeshore Museum Center.

The Scolnik House is described as "a gentle-touch historic house, allowing a unique chance to more fully experience the decade of the 1930s" Visitors can try on period clothing, help do laundry, and explore the garden all while learning of the hardships brought about by the Great Depression.

Encouraging Words From Your Bible

I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.
