9/13/21 - Grand Rapids Gets Ready To Host ArtPrize 2021

2021 ArtPrize will be held in Grand Rapids September 16 - October 3. This year's event will have more art at outdoor venues to make social distancing a bit easier.

ArtPrize is set to open in Grand Rapids this week and a number of artists will be putting the finishing touches on their installments.

ArtPrize is an event to celebrate artists working in all mediums and will be on display throughout the city in public places.

For 18 days, art is exhibited throughout the city in public parks and museums, in galleries and vacant storefronts, in bars and on bridges. ArtPrize awards $450,000 directly to artists, through grants to support their ambitious work and through prizes which the public decides through the ArtPrize mobile app.

ArtPrize artists this year will be allowed to sell their work.  An online ArtPrize Auction will allow the public to look at pieces for sale and bid on them at ArtPrizeAuction.com.  

Area businesses anticipate large crowds during ArtPrize and they have been looking to hire extra workers to staff their restaurants.

Students will still be able to learn more about the event and the works of art on display without necessarily coming downtown in person.  Digital Education Days downloads are available. They will be broken down into three sections:

-Grades 1-5 will learn about art & emotion

-Grades 6-8 will learn about art & community 

-High Schoolers will concentrate on art & social justice.
