The one day strike was authorized after talks between the union and system broke down.

Health care workers at Trinity Health Grand Haven have begun a one-day strike.

The walkout was authorized yesterday after talks broke down. Negotiations have been underway after the union claimed Trinity Health has been working to undermine the union at the hospital.

“It’s clear that Trinity Health is more focused on violating worker’s rights rather than solving problems and coming to an agreement on a fair contract. We cannot recruit and retain staff at our hospital until Trinity raises wages that are competitive with what other West Michigan hospital workers make. We are ready to strike on Friday and demand that our rights are respected,” said Erin Dexter, ultrasound tech at Trinity Health Grand Haven.

The system released a statement saying they are disappointed, and the strike will affect health care services in the region.

“We are coordinating with area hospitals and health care providers, as well as local police and fire departments, to ensure the continued availability of emergency and health care services at Trinity Health Grand Haven.”

"Trinity Health Michigan is dedicated to providing the best possible patient care, and to that end we acted in the best interest of the patients we serve."
