7/15/22 - Special Playscape Officially Opens Today In Kalamazoo Park

Children and families of all abilities can benefit from the new Nature Playscape at Bronson Park.

(Kalamazoo, Mich.) -  The Children's Nature Playscape on Bronson Park is being dedicated today at Bronson Park in Kalamazoo.

The first $1.2 million dollar phase will be celebrated today at an 11:30 a.m.

The project has transformed a reclaimed green space into a nature park for the children of Kalamazoo.

Organizers say that the Children’s Nature Playscape will foster the cultural, emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual development of children and families.

 

The play area is designed for children ages 2-10 to engage in creative, unstructured play with natural elements in a park-like setting.  It offers an accessible paved walkway, log benches and native tall grass, shrubs and other plants.  The site includes play structures, turf and a pondless stream. 

It is located at the site of the former First Reformed Church,  302 Academy Street.  It was demolished in November 2020 after multiple attempts to save the historic building.
