GR City Commissioners vote to partner with the Grand Rapids Urban League to help fight crime.

The Grand Rapids Urban League plans to use a "Cure Violence" model as they work to fight violence in the city.

Grand Rapids City Commissioners approved the partnership Tuesday.

The program will send trained teams of "violence interrupters" to preempt violence and shootings.  Teams will focus on areas and groups that may be at a higher risk of violence .

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Payne is optimistic that partnering with the Urban League and working with this new model, will help reduce crime and continue to strengthen trust between the community and its police  department.
