A number of near drownings resulted in the closure of the Grand Haven State Park beach.
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Many people flocked to the Lake Michigan shoreline on Tuesday to try and beat the heat. However the high winds and waves made conditions in the water very dangerous.
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety received three calls for help at the Grand Haven State Park. The State Park finally closed their beaches to the public. They reopened Wednesday morning. Yellow caution flags were posted.
Authorities say rescue crews were aware of several incidents on Tuesday.
-A 28-year-old woman from Holland, struggled to swim back to shore. Her husband tried to rescue her, but he too struggled in the water. The couple both made it safely to shore by the time officers arrived.
- A 35-year-old father tried to save his two young children from drowning. All three family members had to be rescued.
-A third rescue took place when a 28-year-old woman started struggling in the water.
