Christopher Schurr's employment with the city ended effective June 10, 2022.

Grand Rapids City Manager announced today that the officer charged in the death of Patrick Lyoya has been fired.  Christopher Schurr’s employment with the City was effective June 10th.  Mark Washington says he was informed last week Friday by Schurr’s representatives that he is waiving his right to any hearing.

Washington says because the case is proceeding through the criminal system, he wouldn't make further comment.

Schurr was arraigned on Friday on a charge of 2nd degree-murder and was given 100-thousand dollar bond.  He posted bond later in the day.  Schurr had been placed on paid administrative leave prior to his arrest.

It has been reported the family plans to file a civil lawsuit against Schurr and the City of Grand Rapids.
