The Mayor calls an early end to the Grand Rapids City Commission meeting due to protestors not following the rules.

The Grand Rapids City Commissioners met Tuesday evening to discuss a number of issues.

During the public comment portion, activists became unruly and Mayor Rosalynn Bliss called for a recess.  Later she returned to say that the meeting would be adjourned for the night.

It was the second time recently, that the Commission Meeting was cut short by demonstrations.  The group had gathered there to demand justice for Patrick Lyoya.  The investigation into his death continues.   Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker says he will not make a final decision on the case until he has all of the evidence.

After Lyoya’s death on April 4, community members have been gathering on a regular basis to protest the actions of the GRPD officer and to demand justice.

Demonstrators were expected to show up to Tuesday's meeting.  Before it began, Mayor Bliss said that every person has the right to express themselves but asked that protesters follow the commission meeting rules when speaking.

All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?”
