2/25/22 - Bird Flu Detected In Backyard Michigan Flock

Area farmers are concerned about the spread of Bird Flu.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A strain of the Bird Flu, has been detected in Kalamazoo County.

The USDA said that Michigan officials confirmed that a flock of wild backyard birds tested positive.

Michigan officials have quarantined the Kalamazoo County site and 34 birds at that property “will be depopulated to prevent the spread of disease.”

It was back in 2015 that a similar outbreak killed 50 million birds across 15 states.

Farmers that raise turkeys and chickens for meat and eggs are on high alert.
