One of the largest donations to WMU will provide a tuition-free education.
Western Michigan University says a large donation of $550-million dollars will go to help fund full-ride scholarships through the Bronco Promise.
The Bronco Promise will provide a tuition-free WMU education for up to five years for first-year students who come from families making less than $50,000.
Students who attend Kalamazoo Public Schools or have a Grand Rapids or Detroit address will get preference, but all Michigan residents are eligible to apply. Applications are due Feb. 15, 2022, and decisions will be released in March.
The press release said the funds will also help provide low-cost housing, a new Living Learning Community, internship stipends and scholarships for a number of incoming and current students during the first year alone.
