The Omicron variant was detected in a vaccinated person in Kent County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday, that the first case of the Omicron variant in Michigan was identified in a Kent County resident.
The person who tested positive earlier this month was an adult who had been fully vaccinated but had not received a booster dose.
The initial detection was made on Dec. 3rd but reported on Dec. 9th.
Michigan joins the list of more than 20 other states with confirmed Omicron detections.
The variant is considered to be of concern because it may be more contagious than the initial strain of the COVID-19 virus.
