9/7/22 - Michigan Supreme Court Could Decide on Abortion Question

The court could set the question before voters as an important deadline is approaching.

The Michigan Supreme Court could take up a ballot request to put an abortion question on the November ballot.  

The court could meet as soon as today to decide if abortion would be enshrined in the Michigan constitution by the vote of the people this November.  While the court has not stated if they would make any decision, clerks across the state will finalize their ballots this Friday.  

If approved by voters, the ballot question would supersede the 1931 law outlawing abortion in the state.  

The question was put before the state board of canvassers last month, but the committee of two Democrats and two Republicans were deadlocked over the ballot question, thereby rejecting it from the ballot.  

Petition supporters went to the High Court to get them to overturn the decision.
