An Oakland County Circuit Court Judge will continue a hearing and determine the next steps in Michigan's battle over abortion.
Abortion is still legal in Michigan. Courts issued temporary orders barring enforcement of a 1931 ban on the procedure in response to lawsuits filed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Planned Parenthood of Michigan. Their legal challenges argue that the Michigan Constitution protects the right to an abortion.
On Wednesday, a hearing began to determine the next steps in Michigan's battle over abortion and that hearing will continue into Thursday.
The state is currently pushing for the continued pause on the enforcement of Michigan's 1931 abortion ban. Attorneys for two county prosecutors argue that they should decide whether or not to bring charges pertaining to that law.
Judge Jacob Cunningham extended the temporary restraining order on Wednesday and he is expected to decide whether or not to issue a more long-term suspension of that 1931 ban.
