More than 200,000 Michigan power customers woke up without electricity Wednesday morning after fast-moving storms wreaked havoc across the state overnight.
- Consumers Energy reported nearly 186,000 customers remained without power around 8 a.m. Aug. 11 after winds as high as 70 mph toppled trees, limbs and power lines. It was reporting some areas may not have power restored until early Friday, Aug. 13, though those times often change.
Consumers Energy has an up-to-date online outage map at www.consumersenergy.com/outagecenter. At the peak, more than 200,000 customers lost power.
The forecast is for hot and humid weather to continue today and those without power may need to find somewhere to cool off because the heat index could approach 100 this afternoon.
Those headed to Lake Michigan will be encouraged to stay off the piers and out of the water as red flags are expected due to high waves and rip currents.
