GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A judge set bond at $100,000 for a Michigan police officer charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of Patrick Lyoya.
The judge on Friday also entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of Christopher Schurr
Lyoya died following a traffic stop on April 4.
Schurr’s attorneys say Lyoya’s death was not a crime because the officer was defending himself.
Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom said he would ask the Grand Rapids City Manager to suspend Schurr without pay pending termination.
A crowd gathered outside the Grand Rapids courtroom shouting at those who were there to support Schurr, calling for justice for Patrick.
City leaders say they are reviewing policy changes that may need to take place.
