The fighting continues in Sudan and the U.S. decides to evacuate about 80 government personnel and their families.
(SUDAN) - Fighting in Sudan continues between forces loyal to two rival generals as the fight over power and money. Hundreds of lives have been lost as a result of the fighting.
On Sunday, U.S. special operations forces carried out an evacuation of the American embassy in Sudan. Helicopters were used to bring about 80 government personnel and their families, out of the country. U.S. officials said it would be too dangerous to carry out a broader evacuation mission at this point.
Around 16,000 private American citizens remain in the country. Many have duel citizenship. The Government is telling them to shelter in place if they cannot find a way out of the country. The administration says it is working towards evacuating American's still stranded in the country but they cannot make promises.
The battles between the two rival Sudanese commanders has forced the closure of their main airport and left main roads in the control of armed men.
