2/2/22 -Flights Are Cancelled Due To The Latest Storm System

This next winter storm system will bring heavy snow and freezing rain to parts of the Midwest and beyond. Major airline hubs are canceling flights.

As of earlier today, airlines have canceled more than 1,000 flight in the United States and that number is expected to grow.

A sprawling storm will deliver a mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow to a large area of the central and eastern United States over the next few days. 

On Wednesday and Thursday, the weather service said 8 to 14 inches (20 to 36 centimeters) of snow was possible in parts of Michigan. That includes Detroit, where the mayor activated snow emergency routes and city crews were expected to work 12-hour shifts salting and plowing major roads.

Several schools are closed today as conditions continue to get worse. 

According to WOOD TV-8,  the snow will begin to taper off during the late evening to early overnight hours from the northwest to southeast. Most areas around and northwest of Grand Rapids will see dry conditions on Thursday, while areas south of Grand Rapids could see some lingering light snow. The bulk of the accumulation will occur on Wednesday.
