A number of campuses have held vigils and memorials as they support the MSU campus and offer encouragement.
East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State University students Brian Fraser of Grosse Pointe, Alexandria Verner of Clawson and Arielle Anderson of Harper Woods, were the three students who lost their lives due to a campus shooting on Monday. Five other students are in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital.
Hundreds of people gathered at the Spartan statue on the MSU campus and then together walked to The Rock. Thousands of people gathered Wednesday night for a vigil as leaders shared in their grief, offered encouragement and calls to action as well. They remembered the lives lost and prayed for those five who were injured and are recovering. A large cross was brought to the vigil as a symbol of faith.
Michigan State Police provided security at the vigil so that the campus police could be a part of the MSU community and the healing process.
Counseling is being offered at Hannah Community Center.
The campus will reopen today but classes won't begin until this next Monday. Some of those classes will be held in a different location.
A number of students made their way to the state Capitol on Wednesday. They took part in a peaceful sit-in to protest the violence and call for changes. Student body presidents from several Michigan universities released a joint statement, calling for action from their campus administrations.
