MSU students received a "shelter in place" alert following an active shooting situation.
East Lansing, Mich. - Three lives were lost and at least five people were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
It was shortly after 8:00 p.m. Monday, when police in East Lansing began getting calls of shots being fired. They responded to Berkey Hall and The Student Union on campus.
Students were told to "shelter in place" for the next four hours.
The 43-year-old suspect was then tracked down about 5 miles off campus. He took his own life when approached by police. So far, no name has been released, no connection to the campus and no motive.
All classes, athletics and other campus activities will be canceled through Wednesday and they are asking people not to come to the campus.
Counseling will be made available at the Hannah community Center.
Some other local school districts near Lansing have decided to close today as well.
