12/28/23 - Michigan Supreme Court Rules Trump's Name Can Stay On The Ballot

Former President Donald Trump

The State Supreme Court says former President Donald Trump's name can appear on the Michigan Presidential Primary Ballot.

-The Michigan Supreme Court ruled Wednesday to keep Donald Trump on the 2024 primary ballot and rejected the attempt to remove him based on the US Constitution's "insurrectionist ban."

The high court stated it is "not persuaded that the questions presented should be reviewed by this court."

There are dozens of lawsuits that have been filed this year seeking to end Trump's presidential candidacy.

This ruling in Michigan doesn't say that Donald Trump shouldn't be president, or that he did or did not commit any sort of crime, but the ruling says that under Michigan law, the Secretary of State doesn't have any authority to remove candidates.

Recently the Colorado Supreme Court ruled to remove Trump's name from its primary ballot based on Trump's actions on January 6, 2021.   The Colorado Republican Party now has appealed that state's supreme court decision that found Trump ineligible.

Presidential primary debates will be held next month before the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary.
