A significant winter storm will impact travel during the week leading up to Christmas. Cold temperatures will also impact parts of the South.
-Forecasters are keeping an eye on a major snowstorm that is likely to head across the central U.S. toward the eastern seaboard this week and into the Christmas weekend.
The low-pressure storm is expected to develop by Thursday and coincide with frigid temperatures. States in the southern and northern plains, the Midwest, the Northeast, and Southeast regions of the U.S. could all see snowfall this Christmas weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting “widespread gusty winds,” as well as “bitter cold” and “heavy rain and heavy snow” to impact much of the nation up through Christmas Eve.
The busiest travel days of the season are upon us. The snowy weather across the US will result in airport delays and cancellation. Experts recommend checking flight status updates often. They also suggest travelers arrive at least three hours before your flight's scheduled departure. If your flight does get delayed or canceled, try contacting your airline in multiple ways.
