Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer Delivers State-of-the-State

Gov. Whitmer addressed state lawmakers to look back and lay out priorities for the next year.

(LANSING) - Governor Gretchen Whitmer delivered her sixth State of the State address last night at the Capitol. 

She took a look at her wins from last year and then laid out a vision for the future and challenged lawmakers to further expand in areas that impact economic development, housing and education.

Some of the highlights from last night's address, included:

-Increased investments in education through initiatives such as free community college for high school graduates and free preschool for 4-year-olds

-A tax credit of up to $5,000 for caregiving expenses including counseling, transportation, and nursing or respite services

-Implementation of a research and development tax credit and an innovation fund to invest in high-growth startups

-Pushing for "My Vehicle Rebate" offered at the point of sale 

-A tax credit to incentivize research and development in manufacturing
