Communities around West MI will host events to honor civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Major communities around West Michigan are offering service opportunities to commemorate the holiday.

In Grand Rapids, the Urban League is hosting a morning breakfast to bring people together.  Other communities are also offering similar events to keep with the spirit of service and connection.

Hope College is hosting a Day Leadership Summit.  The school describes the event as:

“faculty, staff and students will leave knowing more about the advocacy, life, ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and leave with rejuvenated faith in God and confidence in their leadership and advocacy capabilities. The life, ministry and work of Dr. King has been significant in shaping the structural and systemic efforts for unity in the United States of America, and it is our desire for that very same impact to touch the campus of Hope College for future generations.”

The Muskegon Museum of Art is also hosting a free day of community activities at their location on Webster Avenue.  Kristina Broughton, Director of Marketing for the Museum says  students with the Muskegon High School will be offering their perspectives on some of the art work.

"Muskegon High School AP Art Students will come in and they are docents for the day.  They have chosen a work of art to study as a part of their AP Art Class."  Students will share their knowledge with guests as part of a service element offered in connection with the Museum.

Entrance to the Museum is free for today.

All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?”
