Storm warnings are no longer in effect for most of the area, but that doesn't mean the problems are gone.
We are not out of the woods yet! A winter storm warning is in effect for Oceana, Ottawa, Muskegon and Newaygo Counties until 10am Thursday. Most of the WCSG listening area is now out of those advisories, although the bitter cold has impacted driving around the region.
A 13-car pileup in Muskegon County sent a number of people to the hospital, some with serious injuries. Conditions in the area were hampered by blowing and drifting snow, leading to poor visibility along US-31.
In the south where this type of cold and snow is highly unusual, a reported nine people have lost their lives, mostly in car crashes. Historic levels of snow have fallen in states like Texas and the Carolinas.
